Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute was founded in 2006 as the result of a vision to create an educational institution for physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians seeking to improve their practice skills for the treatment of pelvic floor and pelvic girdle dysfunction. Holly Herman, DPT, MS, PT, OCS, BCIA-PMDB, and Kathe Wallace, PT, BCIA-PMDB, have been teaching together for over 20 years and are recognized experts in the field of pelvic floor dysfunction. The Institute offers a series of nine continuing education courses in pelvic floor dysfunction taught throughout the year in multiple locations across the country.
Our Mission
To provide the most comprehensive, evidence-based, continuing education for the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and pelvic girdle dysfunction, resulting in the development and certification of a skilled practitioner and the advancement of pelvic rehabilitation research.
Objectives
- To develop a comprehensive, evidence-based, hands-on curriculum encompassing colorectal, gynecological, obstetrical, orthopedic and urological dysfunction and rehabilitation of the pelvic floor and pelvic girdle across the female and male lifespan.
- To recruit and develop highly skilled physical therapy faculty to disseminate the curriculum.
- To develop and promote certified practitioners able to demonstrate mastery in knowledge, skill and behavior in the evaluation and treatment of pelvic dysfunction.
- To foster coordination of multi-site research projects and the use of outcome tools for pelvic rehabilitation.
- To develop and disseminate educational materials for faculty, clinicians, patients and the community.
